Before teaching, my background was rooted in Film, holding a degree in Digital Media with a passion for telling stories through the lens of a camera. My early adulthood was punctuated by my love for travel and art, with years spent traveling the global landscape before eventually establishing roots in the vibrant tapestry of London. During this period, the realisation dawned upon me – I could channel my numerious passions and talents into the art of teaching, which initiated my postgraduate journey in education at the University of Greenwich, London, back in 2007. I also had a particular interest in working with children from disadvantaged backgrounds and specialised in this area during my studies as a mature student.
Returning to Ireland soon after, most of my 15-year teaching journey has been in an infant school located in the heart of Dublin's inner city. My school falls under the Deis Band 1 category, signifying the challenges and opportunities it has provided me. My focus on early childhood education was kindled as I observed how children learn, especially in their formative years, when their natural creativity and sense of wonder remain untarnished by formal education. This curiosity led me to pursue a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education, further nurturing my passion for this area of study.
Today, my expertise falls within the field of Emergent Inquiry-Based Learning and Language development. The concepts I share on this platform are primarily drawn from my research and the collective wisdom of fellow educators. I firmly believe in the value of exchanging ideas. The era of isolated teaching practices has given way to an era of openness. Social media has opened up boundless avenues for communication – we just need to seize the opportunity!
